The Story So Far ...
Born August 12, 1977; James "Sonny" Angelucci grew up in the Suburban area of Philadelphia. He started playing guitar at the age of 7. Known to his family and friends as "Sonny", this youngster began his music journey. He listened to everything that he could get his hands on, From Rhoads to Van Halen, Clapton to Martino, Yngwie to Neal Schon. During this time he was greatly influenced by classical music as well. He devoured compositions by JS Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Paganini, Schoenberg and many others.
Growing up Sonny had the privilege to study music with the late Dennis Sandole and the incredible Joseph Federico (both musical geniuses and Jazz legends in the Philadelphia area). At the age of 17 Sonny won a full scholarship to the D'Angelo Conservatory of Music for classical guitar. After a year he left to pursue a performing career. Following small tours of North America with his own rock band "Smoke", various playing engagements and studio jobs, Sonny was in a severe car accident that shattered his right shoulder. This prohibited from performing in the manner he was accustomed to. At this time he focused his attention to helping others through the science of Music Therapy.
After 4 years of rehab and taking on the task of "re-learning" how to play and changing his playing technique Sonny now finds himself performing again with his own rock group "Smoke" and pursuing his own passion for performing and composing music. In addition to performing and recording in the Philadelphia and New York areas, He teaches privately in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Sonny holds a BA in Performance and a MA in Music Therapy.
